Dr. José Alberto Ramírez Cruz is a Zapotec general practitioner from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and was the first student supported by Casa de Kids in 2017. His dream since high school was to become a doctor, but his parents did not want to encourage this dream because it was a long and expensive career. His situation forced him to work as a “chalan” with his father and at the Coppel department store selling clothes, but he did not give up and managed to get into medical school. Thanks to the support of our donors, it was possible to help José Alberto obtain his professional degree in 2022.
He currently practices medicine in the region where he grew up. At 33 years old, he works mornings as a general practitioner at IMSS Bienestar and afternoons at a Farmacias Similares clinic. He has also been able to support his parents by remodeling their house and is about to open his own medical practice to serve people in the community on weekends. José Alberto always fondly remembers Casa de Kids for helping him achieve his dream. He is deeply grateful and never misses an opportunity to recommend and speak highly of the organization.
